Acceptable use policy
GoSmoko sends email on your behalf and holds your customers' details. That means what you do with it affects other people. This page says where the lines are, so nobody has to guess.

1. Who this applies to
This policy applies to everyone using GoSmoko, including everyone on your crew who signs in under your business. As the account holder you are responsible for what your team does with it.
It sits alongside the Terms of Service. Breaking this policy is breaking those terms.
2. Sending email and links
GoSmoko sends quotes, invoices and payment links from your business through our email provider. Our sending reputation is shared across every GoSmoko customer, so one business sending unwanted mail makes every other business's invoices land in spam.
- Only send to people who asked you to quote, or who you are actually invoicing. A quote to someone who never contacted you is spam, whatever it says on it.
- Do not use GoSmoko for marketing campaigns, newsletters, or bulk sends of any kind. It is not built for that and using it that way will get your sending suspended.
- Do not send on behalf of another business, or resell your account's sending to anyone else.
- Keep your business name and reply address accurate. Recipients must be able to tell who the email is from and reply to a real inbox.
3. Your customers' information
- Only store details you have a genuine reason to hold for the job. GoSmoko is not the place for a customer's medical history, their bank login, or a photo of their passport.
- Do not upload payment card numbers, in a note, a photo, or anywhere else. Card payments go through Stripe, which is built to hold them and certified to do so.
- Photos should be of the work. Do not photograph people without their agreement, or anything inside a house that is not relevant to the job.
- If a customer asks you to delete their details, delete them. You are the one with the relationship and the obligation under the Privacy Act.
4. Access and security
- One sign-in per person. Do not share a password with your crew — add them as users instead, so you can see who logged what and remove them when they leave.
- Do not attempt to access another business's data, probe for weaknesses, or work around rate limits. If you find a way to, tell us at security@gosmoko.com and we will thank you for it.
- Do not scrape the app or drive it with automated scripts against the web interface. If you need programmatic access, get in touch and we will talk about it properly.
- Do not upload anything containing malware, or use GoSmoko to store or distribute files unrelated to your trade business.
5. Illegal and harmful use
GoSmoko may not be used for anything unlawful under New Zealand or Australian law, or to invoice for goods or services that are illegal where the work is being done. That includes using invoices or quotes to disguise the nature of a transaction.
6. What happens if this policy is broken
In most cases we will email you first and explain what we are seeing, because most breaches are a misunderstanding rather than bad intent. Where something is causing active harm — a live spam run, an attempt on another business's data — we will suspend the relevant feature or the account immediately and explain afterwards.
Serious or repeated breaches end in termination under the Terms of Service. Where we are legally required to, we will report the matter to the appropriate authority.
7. Telling us about a problem
If you believe someone is using GoSmoko in breach of this policy, email support@gosmoko.com with as much detail as you can. Security issues specifically go to security@gosmoko.com and are confirmed within two business days.
This document is written to be read, not to be impenetrable. If anything in it is unclear, email hello@gosmoko.com and we will explain it in plain terms.
